The Journey - wall sculpture

This combines images from several West African cultures. The title captures the journey between the present and the "other world". The Dogon-style (Mali) man on the right is showing respect to his "other world" wife on the left. The center panel represents Eshu the Yoruba (Nigeria) god of travel, who journeys between the two worlds. He, like many other Yoruba gods also appears in North East Brazilian macumba rituals. The animal figures forming the border are typical of Yoruba wall panels.
